The ConnectED project has reached another important milestone with the successful completion of the ConnectED Digital Skills Hub, an innovative e-learning platform designed to support vulnerable groups in developing essential digital competences through accessible, engaging and learner-centred education.
Developed according to the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp), the Digital Skills Hub combines high-quality educational content, interactive learning experiences and comprehensive assessment tools into a single online environment that can be used both in formal VET settings and for self-paced learning.
A Structured Learning Journey Based on DigComp
The ConnectED Digital Skills Hub has been designed to address the five key competence areas of the DigComp framework, helping learners acquire the digital skills required to participate confidently in today’s digital society.
The platform covers the following competence areas:
- Information & Data Literacy
- Communication & Collaboration
- Digital Content Creation
- Cybersecurity
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
To accommodate learners with different levels of experience, the educational content is organised into three progressive learning levels:
- Basic
- Intermediate
- Advanced
This structured approach enables learners to gradually develop their competences while following a personalised learning pathway adapted to their existing knowledge and skills.
Comprehensive Learning Materials
Each learning level consists of carefully designed educational modules that combine theory with practical application.
Every module includes:
- A clear introduction and defined learning outcomes;
- Interactive educational content;
- Practical learning activities;
- Additional resources for further exploration;
- Reflection activities to reinforce learning.
The materials have been developed with accessibility, usability and learner engagement in mind, ensuring that participants from diverse educational and social backgrounds can successfully complete the courses.
Continuous Assessment and Certification
A key feature of the ConnectED Digital Skills Hub is its comprehensive assessment system, which allows learners to monitor their progress throughout the learning journey.
Before entering each learning level, participants complete a diagnostic assessment to evaluate their existing knowledge and identify their learning needs.
At the end of every level, learners complete a knowledge assessment that measures the competences acquired during the course.
Upon successful completion of all learning levels, participants can take the final certification assessment, demonstrating their overall digital competence and validating the knowledge and skills gained throughout the programme.
Learning Through Interaction and Practice
Beyond traditional online learning, the ConnectED platform incorporates innovative educational methodologies that actively engage learners throughout the learning process.
One of its most distinctive features is the integration of interactive digital Escape Rooms, where learners solve practical challenges inspired by real-life digital scenarios. These immersive activities encourage critical thinking, problem-solving and the practical application of newly acquired digital skills in an enjoyable and motivating environment.
The platform also includes integrated discussion forums, enabling learners and trainers to exchange ideas, ask questions, collaborate and build supportive learning communities throughout the educational process.
A Powerful Tool for VET Trainers
The Digital Skills Hub has also been designed to support Vocational Education and Training (VET) trainers by providing a comprehensive learning management environment.
Through dedicated trainer functionalities, educators can:
- Monitor learners’ progress;
- Track assessment results;
- Facilitate communication through discussion forums;
- Support learners throughout both synchronous and asynchronous training activities.
This flexibility allows the platform to be seamlessly integrated into classroom-based teaching while also supporting distance learning and independent study.
Preparing for the Pilot Training Courses
With the development of the Digital Skills Hub now completed, the ConnectED consortium is entering the next implementation phase.
Project partners are currently collaborating with Vocational Education and Training (VET) centres across the participating countries to launch the upcoming 300-hour pilot training programmes, specifically designed to strengthen the digital competences of learners from vulnerable groups.
During the implementation of these pilot courses, access to the platform will be available exclusively to enrolled learners and trainers, who will receive personal login credentials allowing them to participate in the educational programme, complete the assessments and obtain certification.
Open Educational Resources for Everyone
Following the successful completion of the pilot training cycles, all educational materials developed within the ConnectED project will become freely accessible through the project’s official website.
This will allow educators, VET providers, organisations, public institutions and individual learners across Europe to access, reuse and benefit from the project’s educational resources, further promoting digital inclusion, lifelong learning and equal opportunities for all.
