EmpowerSDGs: Completion of Activity 5 - Piloting Sessions

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of Activity 5 of the EMPOWERSDGs project. This activity involved organizing pilot testing sessions for two innovative educational tools. These tools are designed to help vulnerable youth understand, interact with, and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The tools also support youth workers in teaching the SDGs to youth.

The materials that were tested are:

  1. The EMPOWERSDGs Training Curriculum:

This dynamic curriculum is designed to provide young people with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to become active citizens. It also offers lesson plans to guide youth workers in organizing their training sessions with young people. The training fosters awareness of global challenges, such as climate change and social exclusion, and empowers participants to take meaningful action in their communities.

  1. The EMPOWERSDGs Gamification Experience:

This is a fun, interactive web platform that uses quizzes and challenges to make learning about the SDGs engaging and accessible. This tool enhances learning while encouraging discussion and critical thinking about sustainability and social impact.

The Piloting Sessions:

  • Larissa, Greece —24 &27 January 2025

The first pilot session, organized by The Hive in partnership with the VET center LearnIt, engaged ten dedicated youth workers. During the two-day session, participants explored the curriculum and the gamified platform and offered valuable feedback to help shape the final versions of the tools.

The youth workers responded enthusiastically and expressed their intention to incorporate the curriculum into their everyday work. Many noted plans to create lesson plans that combine theory and practice to address key topics such as social inclusion, integration, and active citizenship. They also highlighted the usefulness of the curriculum’s checklist as an organizational aid.

  • Larissa, Greece — 12 & 13 March 2025

In partnership with the VET Center “Omiros,” the second session welcomed over 20 young individuals from vulnerable backgrounds, including unemployed youth, migrants, minorities, and youth from rural areas. Over the course of two days, participants engaged in hands-on learning activities, group discussions, and gamified experiences that enhanced their understanding of the SDGs.

Feedback from this session was overwhelmingly positive:

  • Participants found the materials to be accessible, inclusive, and empowering.
  • Many reported increased confidence and motivation to contribute to their communities.
  • Several expressed a desire to join volunteer initiatives and share their knowledge with friends and family.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who participated and helped shape the final outcomes with their insights and energy.
